PAWS ON THE PATIO
Pet Therapy for La Vida Serena Nursing Home residents
Paws on the Patio is our community partnership program with La Vida Serena Nursing and Rehabilitation. The program was founded in 2016 by Megan Donovan and centers around improving patient/resident emotional and physical well being. DVDH brings two pets to visit every Thursday afternoon (time providing) and individually interacts with each of the residents if they desire. Some residents form lasting bonds with our POTP pets and all look forward to the visits each week.
"Dogs can be a great complementary treatment source for a variety of ailments, which is what makes them so useful in nursing homes," says Donovan, "The patients in nursing homes have a plethora of different conditions affecting them, and canine therapy can accommodate them all."
