WAGS TO RICHES

DVDH IN-HOUSE CANINE ADOPTION PROGRAM

dandee-259x300.jpg

This program has successfully placed over 68 dogs in Austin, and we are excited to continue this program in Del Rio! Adopting a dog from a shelter can be a challenge for three reasons. First, while living in a shelter, it is difficult to fully understand the traits and unique characteristics of each dog’s personality. Second, because of the stress and boredom of being in a kennel, behavior problems can develop. Lastly, dogs in shelters are more prone to infectious diseases.

Recognizing these challenges, we have developed a series of medical and behavioral examinations for each Wags to Riches Adoptee. After candidates have passed a thorough examination, they are available for adoption. The $150 adoption fee includes all services listed below.

  • Medical Examination

  • Vaccinated

  • Blood parasite test

  • Heartworm test (if old enough)

  • Spayed or neutered

  • Dental exam and cleaning (if old enough)

  • Administer to any special needs

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting a special pet, ask to see our current Wags to Riches adoptee.

#1 DANDEE

In July of 2016, DVDH rescued its first Wags to Riches dog. Dandee was rescued from Del Rio Animal Control.  She is a sweet, obedient terrier mix that loves children and other dogs.  Because DVDH was not open for business in July, Dandee was fostered by DVDH’s sister hospital, Austin Veterinary Diagnostic Hospital.  Dandee was adopted by a family in Austin.  She is happy, healthy and spoiled.
