DVDH has an in-house canine adoption program called Wags to Riches. This program has successfully placed over 68 dogs in Austin, and we are excited to continue this program in Del Rio.
Adopting a dog from a shelter can be a challenge for three reasons. First, while living in a shelter, it is difficult to fully understand the traits and unique characteristics of each dog’s personality. Second, because of the stress and boredom of being in a kennel, behavior problems can develop. Lastly, dogs in shelters are more prone to infectious diseases.
Recognizing these challenges, we have developed a series of medical and behavioral examinations for each Wags to Riches Adoptee.
After candidates have passed a thorough examination, they are available for adoption. The $150 adoption fee includes all services listed below.
• Blood parasite test
• Heartworm test
• Spayed or neutered
• Dental exam and cleaning
• Administer to any special needs
• One-week in-home observation
• Interaction with other dogs
• Dog/child interaction
• Food aggressive evaluation
• Separation anxiety
